About us…
Architecture should materialise from the people, place and context for which it is intended. Our role is to facilitate this process, through the identification of interactions between each of these founding ingredients. It is our desire to create buildings that enhance these interactions between people, place and context.
Fundamental to our design process is the ‘biophilia hypothesis’ (Dr. Edward O Wilson, 1984). This theory states that there is an innate human tendency to interact or be closely associated with other forms of life in nature. Architecture should thoughtfully embrace and facilitate this observed human tendency. In doing so, people and place should coexist in a harmonious, ‘mutually beneficial,’ symbiotic relationship.
JAK is dedicated to designing for a greener future. We endeavour to specify more sustainably and ethically sourced materials as well as designing for efficient construction methodologies. Ultimately, we believe that architecture should have a net-positive impact on the environment, reversing human induced damages that have resulted from unsustainable practices of the past.
JAK acknowledge and pay our respects to the Traditional Custodians of the land on which we work and build our projects.
